SA: Family Court refuses to release children from detention = 2

Lawyers for the three girls and two boys, aged between five and 15, sought their immediaterelease on an interim basis until a full trial of the siblings' case started next month.

But Justice STEVEN STRICKLAND ruled the children, from the same family, will remainin detention until the full trial starts.

Justice STRICKLAND said he's not satisfied it's in the best interests of the childrento release them.

Last week, Justice STRICKLAND ruled that a case existed that the holding of the fivechildren, who cannot be identified, in detention centres was unlawful.

All five children have been refused refugee status and been earmarked for deportation.

The children's mother had also been refused refugee status while their father was appealingagainst the rejection of his visa application.
